San Jose police officers caught on video using baton & Taser gun on unarmed college student

A cell phone video shows San Jose police officers repeatedly using batons and a Taser gun on an unarmed San Jose State student Phuong Ho, including at least one baton strike that appears to come after he is handcuffed, as they took him into custody inside his home last month. This video recently just got released, made by one of the student's roommates without the knowledge of police, shows that force was used even though the suspect was on the ground, and apparently offering no physical threat to the officers. Several experts in police force said the video appears to document excessive — and possibly illegal — force by the officers. The 10th Anniversary of the Violent Death of Amadou Diallo

Today is February 4th and I don't want people to forget about the tragic shooting of an unarmed man named Amadou Diallo. This tragedy took place back in 1999 on 1157 Wheeler Avenue in Bronx, Ny. 10 years have gone by and we still are keeping the memory strong and alive.

Amadou Diallo, was an unarmed West African immigrant with no criminal record. At the age of 22, he was killed on a frigid night of Feb. 4, 1999, by four New York City police officers.

The following officers were: Kenneth Boss, Sean Carroll, Edward McMellon and Richard Murphy. They all acknowledged firing 41 shots that night, but said they thought that Mr. Diallo was carrying a gun. Mr. Diallo, came to America more than two years from Guinea. He also worked as a street peddler in Manhattan. Unfortunately, on that unfaithful night he was hit by 19 bullets, while standing in the doorway of his Bronx apartment building.

The case set off massive protests across the city. It became a flashpoint for heightened frictions between minority leaders and the administration of Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani.

All four officers who were in plainclothes said " They approached Mr. Diallo because they thought he fit the description of a man wanted in a rape case." Each officer contended that when Diallo pulled out his wallet to show identification they mistook it for a gun.

The officers faced prosecution on second degree murder and other charges, but were acquitted by an Albany jury. Due to concerns over pretrial publicity, the trial had to be moved to Albany.

At the onset of 2006, Term caught his big break when legendary producer DJ Premier, whom he met three years earlier, finally blessed him with one of his signature, scratch-laden beats. The conscious hood anthem garnered the earnest MC tons of praise, landing him in The Source's "Unsigned Hype" and XXL's "Show and Prove" columns.

Since then, Termanology has quickly climbed the industry ranks with his Hood Politics mixtape series and continued collaborations with DJ Premier and other big name producers. Term's hard work resulted in a joint venture deal with Brooklyn-based label Nature Sounds, which he signed in late 2007. "I decided to go the Indy route to have total control of everything related to my project," Term explains.

Nature Sounds is quickly becoming the indy home for classic hip-hop. During the last couple of years the label has released projects by several artists that include hip hop cult icon MF DOOM, Wu-Tang's Masta Killa (Made In Brooklyn), the debut album from Havoc of Mobb Deep (The Kush), most recently, Pete Rock's latest (NY's Finest).

Term has already set things in motion for his debut, Politics As Usual, with the recent leak of the LP's buzz-single, How We Rock," which has the Internet buzzing and features Term rocking with two of Hip-Hop's most beloved individuals, Bun B and DJ Premier (who produced "How We Rock"). Sharpton plans mass arrests to protest Sean Bell verdict

The Reverend Al Sharpton is planning mass arrests in New York City this wednesday to protest the verdict in the shooting death of Sean Bell. Sharpton laid out plans for protests to take place citywide on Wednesday, including a pray-in and organized efforts to block traffic throughout New York. For the massive pray-in, Sharpton is asking protesters to gather Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Sharpton would not reveal all the details for the day of protests, but he did announce the locations for the main protests. They are:

A Queens judge on Friday, April 25th 2008, 9 am EST acquitted three detectives charged in the shooting of Sean Bell, who died on his wedding day in a hail of 50 police bullets. He said that prosecutors had failed to prove their case and that wounded friends of the slain man had given testimony that he did not believe.

The top-to-bottom acquittals of Detectives Gescard F. Isnora, Michael Oliver and Marc Cooper were delivered by Justice Arthur J. Cooperman in an essay form bearing little resemblance to a standard jury verdict, and were met momentarily with silence in court as spectators looked at one another to be sure they had grasped what he was saying.

The detectives, all but obscured behind a human wall of courthouse officers, finally seemed to exhale deeply, even crumple, with relief. Detective Oliver — who reloaded his gun to fire a total of 31 shots and helped catapult the shooting from tragic mistake to a symbol, for many, of police abuse of force and poor training — closed his eyes and cried.

Except for a few scuffles outside the Queens Criminal Court building and shouted displays of disbelief and outrage, the day passed peacefully amid calls for calm delivered by the mayor, the police commissioner and other officials. Still, the Rev. Al Sharpton, a spokesman for the Bell family, called for street protests and said people should get themselves arrested, “whether it is on Wall Street, the judge’s house or at 1 Police Plaza.”
